What the latest rules say
From the 2027 competition rules (live on 26 October 2026). The next edition’s rules may differ.
- AI: “Computer generated images and elements are not permitted, including generative and instructional AI content of any kind.” And: “Note: tools within photo editing software such as Photoshop and Lightroom, such as content-aware fill applied to small areas of the image, are permitted.”
- Original files: “RAW files may be requested for suspect entries”, and entrants face a possible ban if generative AI use is suspected and entries “cannot be verified with RAW files”. RAW files are requested from RAW Planet Award finalists, and “Highest scoring gigapixel entrants will be required to supply original gigapixel files for verification.”
- Eligibility: “There is no age restriction for entrants.” “An Amateur is defined for this competition as someone who earns less than USD$20,000 per year from photography as an occupation.” Images shortlisted in earlier Pano Awards (top 10 in any category) are not permitted.
- Files: a ratio of at least 2:1; Open and Amateur files “EXACTLY 3000 pixels on the long side, and NOT GREATER THAN 1500 pixels on the short side”. “Please do not watermark your images.”
- Licence: “a non-exclusive, irrevocable license in each Entry throughout the world in all media for any use in connection with the Competition, including, but not limited to” exhibitions, the website, the catalogue and promotion in perpetuity, and press sub-licensing “for a period of 5 years”. “You retain copyright in each entry.”
The 2027 rules let the organiser ask for your RAW or original files. Compare your RAW with the photo you plan to enter, free and in your browser.
The 2027 rules are published; WinPhoto adds a full verified record once it has checked them clause by clause.
