Compress a photo to a target file size

Choose the size the file must stay under, then your photo. The tool finds the highest JPEG quality that fits, and makes the photo smaller only when quality alone can't get there.

Your photo stays on your device: nothing is uploaded.

Questions

How does it reach the target size?
It saves the photo as a JPEG, or a WebP if you choose, at the highest quality that keeps it under the target, trying quality 92 down to 52 of 100. If quality 52 is still too large, it makes the photo smaller until it fits at quality 52, then uses any room left to raise the quality again.
How is a kilobyte counted?
As 1,000 bytes, and a megabyte as 1,000,000 bytes. A copy under 100 KB here is also under 100 KB on a site that counts 1,024 bytes to the kilobyte.
Will the copy look different?
At a target close to the photo's own size, the difference is hard to see. At a small target, such as 100 KB for a large photo, the copy has fewer pixels and fine detail softens. The page shows the pixel size and quality it used, so you can choose a larger target if the site allows one.
What happens to the EXIF data and colour profile?
The copy is saved again without EXIF or GPS data, and its colours are saved as sRGB, which browsers and most sites expect. Your original stays as it is.
Is my photo uploaded?
No. The tool runs in your browser: the photo is read and changed on your device and is never sent to WinPhoto or anyone else.
