Questions
- How do I work out print size from pixels?
- Divide the pixels by the print resolution in DPI to get inches, then multiply by 2.54 for centimetres. 6000 × 4000 pixels at 300 DPI print at 20 × 13.3 inches, or 50.8 × 33.9 cm.
- What DPI do I need for a good print?
- 300 DPI is the usual standard for prints seen up close. Around 240 DPI is often enough for inkjet prints, and 150 DPI for large prints seen from a distance.
- How many pixels do I need for an A4 print?
- At 300 DPI, an A4 print (21 × 29.7 cm) needs 2480 × 3508 pixels, about 8.7 megapixels.
- Does changing the DPI setting change my photo?
- No. The DPI value in a file is only a label for printing; the pixels stay the same. What counts is how many pixels you have for the print size you want.
