Check and fix a photo for a contest's file rules
Choose a contest from our verified records, or a common size, then choose your photo. The check compares the file with the rules and can make a copy that meets them.
Your photo stays on your device: nothing is uploaded.

Your file carries the GPS position where it was taken. A copy made here leaves it out, with the rest of the EXIF data.

The copy meets the file rules listed above. The contest's entry page and current rules have the final say, so read them before you submit, and keep your original: some contests ask for it later. The copy carries no EXIF or GPS data.
How to use it
- Choose the contest you are entering, or a generic size if it is not listed.
- Choose a JPEG or PNG photo, or drop it on the box.
- Read each rule: met, not met or worth a look, with the contest's figure beside your file's.
- If a rule is not met, pick a crop if you want one (a set shape, or a free one you drag across the preview) and make a copy. It is resized, saved under the size limit and tagged sRGB.
- Download the copy, then read the contest's own entry page before you submit.

Questions
- What does the contest file check look at?
- The file type, the pixel dimensions and long edge, the file size, the embedded colour profile, and whether EXIF or GPS data is present. When a contest lists aspect ratios, it checks those too. The rules come from WinPhoto's record of the contest, which links to the organiser's own rules.
- Does a fixed copy guarantee that my entry is accepted?
- No. The copy meets the file rules listed here, but the contest's entry page and current rules decide. Read them before you submit, and keep your original file: some contests ask for it later.
- Why can't the tool make an Adobe RGB file?
- Browsers can save a picture in sRGB, but not in Adobe RGB. When a contest asks for Adobe RGB (1998), export the photo from your editor in Adobe RGB at the size the check shows.
- How is the file size counted?
- For a maximum, a megabyte is 1,000,000 bytes; for a minimum, 1,048,576 bytes. A file that passes here passes whichever way the contest's upload page counts.
- Is my photo uploaded?
- No. The tool runs in your browser: the photo is read and changed on your device and is never sent to WinPhoto or anyone else.
