Questions
- Does a watermark stop people copying my photo?
- No, but it keeps your name on the photo when it is shared. Text tiled across the whole photo is harder to crop out than text in a corner.
- Can I enter a watermarked photo in a contest?
- Many contests ask for entries without a watermark, signature or border. Check the contest's rules, and keep an unmarked copy to enter.
- JPEG or PNG?
- JPEG makes a smaller file, saved at quality 92 of 100. PNG keeps every pixel exactly, and any transparency, but the file is larger.
- Is the photo's metadata kept?
- No. The copy has the same pixel size as your photo, but no EXIF or GPS data, and its colours are saved as sRGB.
- Is my photo uploaded?
- No. The tool runs in your browser: the photo is read and changed on your device and is never sent to WinPhoto or anyone else.
